President Fernandez’ Discretionary Fund Moore College of Art & Design is pleased to announce that $357,000 has been raised for the President Fernandez Discretionary Fund. The fund was presented to President Fernandez on May 7, at a reception honoring her tenure. President Fernandez has chosen to allocate the money to endow and support women’s leadership fellowships, prizes and programming at the College. Rich Harrington Makes Headlines as Sports Cartoonist Richard Harrington, assistant professor of Illustration at Moore, has joined SportsWeek, the Philadelphia Daily News’ weekly sports publication, as a “Sportoonist,” or cartoonist. The publication, which prints on Sundays, seeks to cover “this town’s shared passion in a way that goes beyond the field of play.” Harrington’s debut illustration, published in May, chronicled the Philadelphia Phillies and their batting problems. Robert Goodman Named New Chair Moore faculty member Robert Goodman has been named chair of Fine Arts and Photography & Digital Arts. Goodman has taught at the College since 2007 in Foundation, Fine Arts and the graduate Studio Art program. His most recent exhibition, Jungle Gothic, was at the Seraphin Gallery in Philadelphia. Summer Activities at Moore Moore is a hub of activity this summer, from youth and continuing education programs to the start of summer graduate programs. Both the Teacher’s Summer Institute and Summer Art & Design Institute began this week, as well as graduate classes in Studio Art, Interior Design and Art Education. In The Galleries Hosted annually by Moore and organized by Philadelphia Sculptors, the 5 Into 1 exhibition is on view in the Goldie Paley and Levy Galleries through July 21. 5 Into 1 features work by recent graduates from BFA and MFA programs at five Philadelphia art & design schools, including Moore. Also on view in The Galleries is All Together Now, Kate Stewart & Ward Davenny: Civil Dusk, Larry Sommese: Off the Wall | On the Wall and Young Artists Workshop: Design in Nature. The Pool is Open at Sweat Gym Moore has signed a new contract with Sweat Fitness at 1425 Arch Street. Eligible faculty, staff, and students can now start using Sweat for their fitness needs. The contract is only with the Sweat Fitness Center City location at 1425 Arch Street. You must show your Moore ID to verify that you are eligible and to receive a membership card.
