Cecelia Fitzgibbon Named Eighth President
On February 23, the Board of Trustees and Managers of Moore College of Art & Design named Cecelia Fitzgibbon as the College’s eighth president. Fitzgibbon will succeed Dr. Happy Craven Fernandez, who announced last May her intent to step down in June 2012. Fitzgibbon has spent the last 16 years as a professor, director and department head for Drexel University’s Arts Administration and Arts & Entertainment Enterprise programs. Since 1996, she has directed Drexel University's Graduate Arts Administration Program.

Faculty iPad Distribution

Moore Faculty Receive iPad Devices
In conjunction with Moore’s new iPad Initiative, representatives from Apple were on-site in Stahl Hall on March 1 to host orientation workshops for Moore faculty. Thirty faculty members received an iPad and will be using the next few weeks to decide which apps will best support teaching and learning in the new Foundation curriculum. All new BFA students starting in the fall of 2012 will receive an iPad pre-populated with selected apps to enhance the visual art and design education they will receive at Moore.

Philadelphia Fashion Incubator

Alumna D’Agostino Named Designer-in-Residence for Philadelphia Fashion Incubator
Moore College of Art & Design congratulates alumna Melissa D’Agostino ’02, who has been named a Designer-in-Residence for the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator (PFI) at Macy’s Center City. D’Agostino majored in fine arts and minored in textile design. She is the sole proprietor of D’Agostino Fashion Textile Design, where she creates custom-made garments and accessories. As part of the PFI, D’Agostino will have access to office and design/work space, a production room and a showroom/conference room at Macy's Center City.

FiberPhiladelphia

Moore Hosts FiberPhiladelphia
FiberPhiladelphia is an international biennial and regional festival for innovative fiber/textile art. Exhibitions are planned for 40 locations, including Moore College of Art & Design. They will include work by renowned international artists and a new generation of artists breaking into the field. On March 2nd at 2:30 pm, Mayor Michael Nutter will give a Welcome Address and Fiber Art Proclamation in the Stewart Auditorium, followed by Elissa Auther, who will give a lecture called “Fiber in the 21st Century Art World” and will discuss the explosion of fiber and fiber-based practices in contemporary art and everyday life.
